What are the long-term side effects of anesthesia after surgery?

I am a 25 year old male who is undergoing anesthesia very soon. I am a bit fearful of the process and the side effects. What are the long-term side effects of anesthesia after surgery?

All anesthetics have side efffects. But they usually dissapears hours after. In very sick ..or old people could take more time.
That is currently being investigated. 20 years ago, no one believed there were any. Now, there do appear to be some mi or neurocognitive effects that get worse with increasing age. Always opt for a regional anesthetic if possible.
There generally are no long-term side effects from general anesthesia. Most agents that are used are relative short acting and will provide anesthesia for the duration of the procedure you are having. Some people may have nausea, and be sleepy post the procedure, but this is short-lived. You should be meeting with your anesthesiologist prior to your procedure and go over the plan and any anticipated side effects.
