I recommend that my patients stay on a full liquid diet for 2 weeks and then a soft diet for 2 weeks. It may take 4-6 weeks before you are eating normal solid food.
Gas-bloat is a normal and common side effect. As a natural reaction to reflux, people swallow air subconsciously. Because there is now a one way valve in the stomach, that air has to go down instead of coming up. Many patients then feel bloated because they can no longer belch. It can also lead to increased flatulence.
Lastly, patients have difficult vomiting when nauseous and may retch.
