Pediatrician Questions Swollen Lymph Nodes

What causes swollen lymph nodes in children?

My 7 year old son has had swollen lymph nodes for months. What causes swollen lymph nodes in children?

1 Answer

Swollen lymph nodes occur when the drainage to that lymph node is affected. Ex: anterior cervical lymph nodes occur with nasal drainage or sore throat. Posterior cervical drainage the forehead and scalp. Inguinal lymph nodes drain the legs. Wherever the lymph node is swollen, look for insect bites, broken skin, etc., that would have caused the node to swell. If all are swollen, they need to be checked, as mono, lymphoma, etc., can cause this.
