What causes upper chest pain in a child?

My son is 7 years old and he randomly will have upper chest pain. What causes upper chest pain in a child?

Children can have what we have always called Growing Pains. If your child is having recurrent upper chest discomfort, a visit to the pediatrician would probably be appropriate
Usually upper chest pain or left or right sided chest pain is musculoskeletal (chest wall pain) and not heart pain. Chest pain with exercise can be more worrisome. Most pediatricians and family physicians are good at dealing with chest pain in kids. If they have a concern the always refer to a pediatric cardiologist who can do more tests if needed to make sure it is nothing to worry about.
