Many causes. Need to see an Orthopedic Surgeon.
You need to be evaluated by a musculoskeletal specialist or sports medicine doctor to answer that question. They need to obtain a detailed history and form a good exam and obtain radiographs. Hip pain can be coming from your hip joint but more often than not from your lower back.
There may be many causes. You should go see a doctor. You may have ligament or tendon issues, back or spine issues, arthritis, inflammation.
The most likely diagnosis is hip bursitis. It's easy to treat with meds, stretching and a cortisone shot. Other reasons include hip labral tears, hip arthritis, iliopsoas tendonitis, or even a stress fracture.

Hope it helps!!

The pain may be coming from the joint itself due to conditions such as arthritis, labral tear, stress fracture, or aseptic necrosis. It can also be referred pain from spinal or intrapelvic pathology. Would strongly recommend a thorough work-up for this problem.
