First of all, make sure you are not taking any diuretics that causes increase in creatinine. If you had uncontrolled hypertension and/or DM for some time, your kidneys may have been shot. Otherwise, your doctor need to check any other reasons for elevated creatinine. Another common reason is for some people to consume body building supplements that increase creatinine.
A high creatinine is usually indicative of renal failure or CKD (chronic kidney disease). The creatinine and BUN determines the estimated GFR (glomerular filtration rate) which indicates how serious the CKD is. The cause of the CKD must be determined. Alternatively a high creatinine may be due to acute kidney injury or severe dehydration. Your physicians must determine what condition has resulted in the high creatinine. The condition must be addressed to take the right approach to managing this. Poorly controlled Diabetes and hypertension are frequent causes but not the only ones.
