Oncologist Questions Oncologist

What do you think about my diagnosis?

As I have much of my symptoms as IBC, on Facebook The Inflammatory Breast Cancer Foundation. After seeing my oncologist in December 2017, my oncology explained, if I had a lumpectomy, my cancer definitely will spread to my organs. But I made the brave decision to have a mastectomy.

While I was taking letrazole, my cancer was back with itchiness around my breasts. Before losing my right breast after my previous diagnosis and mastectomy to my left side breast first in 2017, I had a mastectomy in different hospital and the surgeon never requested a CT scan or MRI scan. To show a lump or check if cancer affected other organ. I could say my surgeon was careless in every way. In 2017, I was diagnosed with DCIS which was wrong and does not match with my symptoms. Even my oncologist doesn't take it seriously, like when I first felt itchy, redness, heaviness and pain in my arm on the left side.

What do you think about my diagnosis? Please let me know thanks.

Hi,

Thank you for your question and I am sorry to hear that you are having these symptoms. The itchiness etc that you are experiencing could be side effects of the letrozole.

In terms of your diagnosis, it may be LCIS (lobular carcinoma in situ) which is discovered through biopsy and its management is observation after biopsy rather than mastectomy.

Please check with your oncologist. You could also seek a second opinion.

Hope you feel better and please let me know if you have further questions.

Best wishes,

Dr. Hays
