Any dental procedure can result in sensitivity after the treatment. Dental treatment can cause inflammation in and around teeth that can cause sensitivity. Typically this fades with time.
The tooth and ligament surrounding the tooth have been traumatized and require time to heal. Usually a month after treatment is completed the tooth will feel perfectly normal again. If not, please call dentist who performed the root canal to have tooth reevaluated.
It would be very unusual to have sensitivity after a root canal treatment was completed because the nerve in the tooth is removed. But there could be some tiny bits of nerve tissue remaining penetrating the root and crown which may cause some sensitivity. However it should only last for a short while. I would have to guess maybe a day or so.
Some sensitivity is normal but it should not last long. If you are still sensitive after a week, definitely visit your dentist.
