Patellar tendinitis is due to to much tension and strain being placed on the tendon overtime. It's called an overuse injury, meaning it is over activating when it shouldn't be due to hyperactive and shortened quadriceps muscles that give rise to the patella tendinitis. Stretching your quadriceps in dynamic movements not static holds and strengthening your hamstring is recommended.
Wall sits.
Assuming patellar tendonitis is the correct diagnosis, the best course of action is to rest for up to 6 weeks, then perform eccentric (negatives) exercises for the quads. It is also very important to adequately stretch the quadriceps muscles. It is imperative to halt any plyometric exercises such as jumping or sprinting until the tendonitis is healed. Concentric exercises to the quads may lead to worsening the patellar tendonitis if applied too soon.
Many of the joints (upper and lower extremities) that have tendinitis can be treated successfully with chiropractic.
