For children tolerate tonsillectomy well but the older you are, it may take a few more days to recover from the surgery. Most common symptoms after tonsillectomy are sore throat, trouble eating or drinking, bleeding for a few days. Please call your otolaryngologist as she/he will be able to provide you more information.
The pain after a tonsillectomy can be very severe. Be sure to give the pain medicines as the doctor says to. Your child may not want to eat or drink because it hurts so much. Eating is the best way to get better faster. Her breath may smell awful. Good dental hygiene is important but the smell comes from the tonsillitis beds. Good luck
