NSAIDs like Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve
Tylenol is very effective and if you don’t take excessive amounts for example no more than four per day, it has the lowest side effects. Anti-inflammatories are also helpful but can cause upset stomach. Anti-inflammatories include over-the-counter medications such as Advil or Aleve. I would start with Tylenol as it has the lowest side effects
Typically anti-inflammatories (Advil/Ibuprophen/Aleve) are going to work better than Tylenol. You should not take anti-inflammatories if you have a history of Stomach ulcers, are on blood thinning medications, or have high blood pressure/Heart issues.
Generally a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory. i.e. ibuprofen, naproxen, etc.
Since he is not your treating physician, he cannot recommend treatment. Your best option is to ask your primary care physician.

The best pain reliever for bursitis or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen, meloxicam, Celebrex. You can use Voltaren gel applied topically to the area of bursitis to decrease inflammation as well as pain caused by bursitis. If such medication failed to relieve the pain or inflammation, steroid injection can also be used.
A good anti-inflammatory such as naproxen or ibuprofen is the best pain reliever and treatment for bursitis.
