“What therapy is most recommended for seniors?”
My 78 year old mother suffers from anxiety. What therapy is most recommended for seniors?

There are many causes of anxiety from infectious, to metabolic, to genetic, to traumatic, to nutritional deficiencies, and also life stressors. Without a thorough evaluation, it is impossible to say what would be the best type of therapy for your mother, at age 78 or at any age. A thorough evaluation includes a detailed history of her life, family history, medical history, and comprehensive blood work. This can take a handful of visits to gather all of the information and then formulate an individualized treatment plan.

I treat seniors no different than anyone else. I do not approve of benzo's for anxiety for anyone because they are addicting and there are substitutes such as Lexapro etc. Jack L. Underwood, M.D.
Geriatric anxiety can develop from many different sources (dementia, depression, medications, no name a few). It would be important to know why your mother has developed anxiety. I would recommend she see her PCP or a physician who specializes in geriatric medicine so she can be fully evaluated & treatment plan put in place.
