Today, there are no bad implants, there are only bad choices. For this reason, you should choose a good dentist and let him do this work. Most dentists doing implants are good. If any doubt, ask your general dentist for a referral. If you try to take the decision making into your own hands (what kind of implant or what dentist), you may go wrong.
Most implants are made of Titanium. Same as hip, orthopedic and fracture restoring. The reason is Titanium is well accepted by the surrounding tissues. Dental implants have improved tremendously in the last 25 yrs. If you are a good candidate they have about 90% success rate or more.
Dental implants are most often made of titanium though there have been a few recently made of zirconium and zirconium/titanium blend.
Implant apparatuses are usually titanium, so if they are non-allergenic two patients and therefore very expensive, placement should only be done by a specialist such as a periodontist or an oral surgeon. Remember, there is no such specialty as implantology; I'm only mentioning these two specialists as the most fitting.
Titanium.
