Babies can have anti biotic at any age if needed there is no age limit
Hello.

There is no age limit for antibiotics. It can be prescribed even for infants and neonates.
Your question is not unreasonable. What you've asked Is really two different questions. Antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections. They do nothing to viral infections. Rules for when you use antibiotics and which antibiotic Is used can be dependent on child's age, symptomatology, evidence of infection, etc. That's what your pediatrician was trained to do. If prescribing antibiotics don't hesitate to ask why.
Babies can have antibiotics at birth if they have an infection. In fact the younger child has less immunity and would be more likely to get bacterial infections than an older child. Most runny nose are viral and would not warrant antibiotics unless there is a secondary infection.
