I am a 51 year old male. I want to know which is better CT scan or MRI of the abdomen?

It depends on what your doctor is trying to image. For instance, acute pain in appendicitis or with kidney stones is best imaged with CT. On the other hand, trying to characterize an abnormality in the liver or pancreas is usually best done with MRI. So, more information is needed about your symptoms.

As a general rule, CT is an excellent imaging modality for the abdomen and pelvis. MRI is especially good for the biliary system and is a fantastic supplemental abdominal and pelvic imaging modality. MRI is more expensive, less available with longer imaging times.
