Why does my jaw pop when I chew food?

I'm 20, and I have noticed that when I am chewing food, my jaw makes a popping sound. What can be the cause? Should I see a doctor?

Between your skull and lower jaw there is a pad called a meniscus. The “popping” is the meniscus/pad sliding in and out of position. A well made night guard can help with keeping the meniscus in position.
There can be many causes. Most often if there is just the popping noise and no discomfort there is not much to do. The prudent thing to do would be to see a dentist familiar with some aspects of your jaw joint and at a minimum have a panorex X-ray to see if anything obvious is going on in your joint. You may want to try a softer diet for about a week and see if the
popping decreases. This would put less pressure on the joint.
