Why does my ear hurt after using a cotton swab?

I am a 34 year old female and I used an ear cotton swab too far in. Why does my ear hurt after using a cotton swab?

Hello,

You are traumatizing the ear canal skin and could risk an external ear canal infection.

You might have a narrow ear canal, or possibly a bump in the ear canal that you are bumping into. Generally, we don’t recommend using cotton swabs deeply in the ear.

Because you have abraided the canal skin, like abraiding your knee
You may have scraped your ear canal, if it went to far you could have bruised or irritated your eardrum. If it has been more than a few days and still hurting or you are noticing a decrease in your hearing, I would schedule an appointment with an otolaryngologist.
It's possible you've got impacted wax and you're pushing on it. Stop using the swabs for a bit and see what happens.
You contacted the bony ear canal where the skin is right on top of the bone. If pain doesn't resolve quickly, get examined.
