Infectious Disease Specialist (Pediatric) Questions Bronchitis

Why is my daughter getting bronchitis so frequently?

Every time my daughter has been sick this season, it always turns into bronchitis. It either starts from a cold, or something similar to that, and then by the time we take her to the doctor she's diagnosed with bronchitis. I thought bronchitis was an adult's disease. Why does she keep getting it?

She might have asthma.
Bronchitis is an infection of the larger tubes or bronchi. Sometimes, this can be mild asthma that only occurs when your child has a cold. Has she coughed until vomiting or had wheezing? If this is happening, she may need a daily controller of the cough. Make sure no one is smoking around her and no candles or other respiratory irritants are being used.
