Will I need glasses after cataract surgery?

I am a 53 year old male and I will have surgery for cataracts. Will I need glasses after cataract surgery?

The need for any glasses after cataract surgery depends on the lenses and strategy used during the surgery. If astigmatism (non-spherical cornea) is present, a lens that neutralizes it can be used to relieve the need for glasses post-op. If the patient wants to be independent of glasses for distance and near either multifocal (progressive) lenses or monovision (dominant eye for distance, non-dominant eye for near). I favor monovision with standard full vision spherical or astigmatic lenses as the optimal way to eliminate glasses in those most motivated to avoid wearing glasses. The motivation and strong dominance best predict those who will accept monovision.
Possibly, yes. Everyone is different. It will all depend on what lens you choose. Only upgraded lens will reduce the need for glasses after cataract surgery. Please call our office for more details! (561) 626-3937
It depends on your eye shape and what kind of lens you implant into the eye.

Cataract surgery can reduce your dependance on glasses. Many people will need assistance with reading following surgery unless they elect for premium lenses. Some patients will need glasses to correct astigmatism following cataract surgery. The specifics vary case by case. Your local eye care provider would be able to assist with information specific to your case.
Most likely, yes. Most people need some sort of glasses after surgery but the prescription is usually mild compared to their previous prescriptions.
