Lower abdominal pain is the most common condition that people particularly female persons suffer from on many occasions in their lives. Although the related cause for this condition might vary from person to person, but most of the causes that lead to abdominal pain are not very serious in nature. The issue can be easily diagnosed and treated accordingly. Nevertheless, there is also the possibility that the pain that is felt in the lower abdomen can sometimes be an indication of a serious malady and that is why it is essential that it is not ignored and treated on time. It is usually difficult to determine exactly where abdominal pain is coming from. Here are the most common sources of lower abdominal pain in women:

Menstrual pain or cramps

This is the most common cause in women of all ages. Menstruation causes contraction of the walls of uterus and it gives rise to pain. This pain may be severe in some cases and gets rectified with age. For those women who are experiencing extreme pain can take painkillers as it is also helpful to reduce the pain.

Kidney stones

Formation of stones in the kidney produces mild to severe lower abdominal pain under ribs. Sometimes, the kidney stones travel down the ureter and it then leads to lower abdominal pain. If your pain spreads from your back to your groin area, this may signify kidney stones. Always let your doctor know if you see blood in your urine or urine of different color.

Urinary disorder

Urinary tract infection is an infection of the bladder or kidney. It can cause severe lower left abdominal pain. Urinary infections are common and symptoms include burning when urinating and needing to use the toilet more often. Infection can spread to the kidneys if not treated. The infection is caused by bacteria and should be treated by taking antibiotics.

Appendicitis

This is the most common cause of right lower abdominal pain. The pain is characterized by the inflammation of the appendix. Appendicitis should be treated by a simple surgical operation to get rid of the severe pain. Though the cause is mostly unknown, appendicitis can become very serious and warrants immediate medical attention.

Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a medical condition where the uterine cells move out of the uterus into other organs in the abdomen. These cells usually are responsible for menstruation and when they move out of the uterus wall, they can cause accumulation of blood in that organ. This leads to the formation of blood clots and adhesions that gives rise to pain in the abdomen.

Irritable bowel syndrome

Pain due to irritable bowel syndrome often comes in waves, and your body may alternate between diarrhea, constipation, and bloating.

Although in most of the cases lower abdominal pain is not a severe problem, but in some cases it may be the symptom of some life taking dangerous diseases such as cancer, ovary problems and many more. So care should be taken if you feel such pain. It is true that the causes of lower abdomen pain in women can vary person to person. However; common causes of the lower abdominal pain will vary from relatively harmless disorders like gas or even constipation, to a very serious condition like carcinoma or even excretory organ infection.
