  • How can I straighten my front teeth?

First, see your regular dentist for a consultation. You want to eliminate any dental diseases first. Depending on your age, health, and your oral condition--that is, what orientation your teeth are in, and other factors involving the bite and many other clinical factors, you can be fitted by your dentist or orthodontist with fixed braces or removable appliances. It is recommended that you do not use mail order services which do not consider the above mentioned factors and cannot observe your tooth movements and other complaints, soreness, etc. or modify your treatment accordingly. • Does root canal weaken tooth?

No. The root canal work removes the nerve and nerve connections which are all soft tissue. The bone remains intact. A small portion of bone is also removed but should not be enough to weaken the tooth. After the root canal therapy it might be advisable to have a crown placed on the upper portion of the tooth. Your dentist could provide you with choices of how to restore the tooth after the root canal has been accomplished. However, if the tooth has been fractured prior to the root canal therapy, it may be a total loss. Your dentist should be able to determine that during the therapy. DENTIST READ MORE

  • How long does it take to recover from a bone graft?

Most recovery cycles are just a few days for the soreness to disappear. Of course the bone healing is usually 6 to 8 weeks. Every person is different and your dentist should let you know about rare complications that can sometimes arise. DENTIST READ MORE

  • How should I clean stains from my teeth after braces?

Actually, the best course of action is to have your Dentist's dental hygienist do a thorough cleaning of your teeth. This should remove a great deal of the problem. The dentist can then recommend a course of action that could include various types of stain removing methods and whiteners. DENTIST READ MORE

  • How can I stop receding gums?

Receding gums are a common problem in the US. You must see your dentist every 6 months and get a professional cleaning. You must check your overall health with your physician to make sure you have good bone health and good tissue health. Eat a balanced diet which includes fruits and vegetables as well as protein in meat, fish, fowl, and other sources. You must be sure to include vitamin C from natural sources high in this vitamin. Get some sun and/or take Vit. D supplements. Exercise mildly up to your own physical level. Get the right amount of sleep. Don't worry and stress on things you cannot control Be happy and find things to do that are beneficial to yourself and others. If bone loss occurs, seek professional advice on getting bone grafts if necessary, and rely on your dentist to monitor your dental health and suggest other treatments. Also, use a soft toothbrush and do not use whitening (abrasive type) toothpaste. Check out your brushing habits and method with your dental hygienist and dentist. Get an electric toothbrush with a soft bristle. DENTIST READ MORE

  • Can jaw surgery cause any damage?

Without knowing the extent, purpose, and reason for your jaw surgery, it can only be said that a competent surgeon will do everything in his/her power to insure a successful outcome. Listen carefully to what the surgeon tells you to do before and after surgery and comply with the instructions. The surgeon will also carefully review any untoward circumstances or complications that could arise, however rare. That is the time to ask any questions or worries you might have. DENTIST READ MORE

  • Can I tighten partials?

Your dentist should evaluate the problem you are having with your partials. Visit your dentist and have a thorough examination made. Sometimes a relining by the dentist can fix the loosening problem. Other instances occur where the partial is old and broken, or the teeth of the partial are worn, or the clamps holding the partial have loosened or broken, or the supporting teeth have worn or themselves are "loose". In many cases a brand new partial or partials is necessary to restore form, fit, function and good looks. There are other cases where infection or a tumor is causing a loosening of the partial, so it is vital that your dentist checks your mouth. DENTIST READ MORE

  • What can I do for crown sensitivity?

Sometimes the sensitivity is on the gingiva (gums) but sometimes it may be that the tooth's nerve has been stressed. Wait a few weeks and use a tooth paste such as sensodyne. The pain may subside. If not, see your dentist to check if there is any cement around the tooth. If the pain gets worse it may mean that the nerve of the tooth, which may have remained dormant, has suddenly decided to go bad. This happens at times and could mean the need for root canal treatment. DENTIST READ MORE

  • How many years do partials last?

Partial dentures last until you leave the Dentist's office. The real question is what happens when your mouth adapts to the partial denture, and what changes in the contour of your mouth occur? How do these natural changes affect the form, fit, function and comfort of your partial denture with respect to your mouth? You should be seeing your dentist every 6 months for a checkup and for the cleaning of your teeth. You would not think of driving your car without ever giving it an oil change and a safety check. The same applies to your teeth and your partial denture. During the "safety check" the dentist will examine the partial denture for wear, cracks, chips, bent prongs, and the fit of the appliance with respect to your soft tissue (your gums). Many minor problems can be repaired on the denture, and a reline can restore the exact fit of the denture with your gums so that there will not be any irritating spots, if the dentist finds any such irritation. Just as you must change the tires when they wear out, sometimes a hard wear on your partial denture may require its complete replacement. Your dentist will assess the condition of your partial and will recommend whatever needs to be done to optimize your dental health. If one or more natural teeth are supporting the denture, the dentist will also determine if any changes or restorations must occur due to the condition of the teeth. DENTIST READ MORE

  • Is a gum infection curable?

Yes. Depending on your situation, it could be a matter of a professional cleaning, or the use of antibiotics, or a change in diet to add Vit. C., or a need to change your brushing and flossing habits, or all of the above. See your dentist for a checkup and follow your dentist's advice. Dentist. READ MORE

  • How much bleeding will I have after implant surgery?

Consult with your dentist and surgeon. Each case is different so there is no pat answer. Usually there is minimal bleeding after surgery, certainly no more than experienced with a tooth extraction. If you take anti-clotting medication be sure your dentist and surgeon are aware of any medications you are taking and what you are taking them for. Dentist READ MORE

  • Why do I have a high fever after a root canal?

Your high fever is probably independent of the root canal. Have your dentist check to see if you are allergic to any medications the dentist used. Also have the dentist check to see if there is any swelling or soreness at the treatment site. The dentist may have to take a radiograph of the area. Make sure to see your dentist promptly as this could be an emergency. DENTIST READ MORE

  • When can I brush my teeth after gum pinhole surgery?

You must ask this question of your dentist and let the dentist explain what you need to do. Every situation and circumstance are too varied to give an answer by internet. DENTIST READ MORE

  • Can you chew gum with implants?

Once an implant is firmly in place you can chew gum. The non-sticky kind, like sugarless gum, is OK. You might limit your use of sticky bubble gum, or candies with caramel. Best to wait 8 weeks after implant is in place and the crown is cemented. Dentist READ MORE

  • Can I make my braces white again?

Braces are made of a type of stainless steel or alloy which doesn't turn dark under normal circumstances. If you are eating very acidic foods it is possible. Try using baking soda tooth paste. Otherwise, have your orthodontist replace the wires the next time the orthodontist adjusts them. Darker braces will not affect the actual dental treatment. DENTIST READ MORE

  • Can you fix dental implant infection?

A dental implant infection can be serious and could lead to the removal of the implant. Actually the infection is in the surrounding gingiva (gums) and surrounding bone. Various dental cleaning methods, antibiotics, mouthwashes, and vitamins (such as vit. C) can sometimes alleviate the problem, and bone material can be sometimes used to help support the implant. Work with your dentist and follow the dentist's instructions. DENTIST READ MORE

  • How often do I need to get my crown checked?

You should see a dentist every 6 months for a cleaning, and every few visits radiographs may be suggested. If the tooth with the crown is painless, and the tooth is vital or has had endodontics, and if the gingiva is not inflamed in any way, and the bite is excellent, then the crown may give good service for several years.
