  • What are the treatment options for hip arthritis?

Hello, First, the severity of the hip arthritis must be assessed. Second, the cause of the degenerative change must be identified. If the severity of the arthritic change is mild or moderate, then conservative care such as chiropractic or physical therapy could be very beneficial. Balancing the stress on the joints, mobilization of the joint and stretching of the associated muscles can decrease the inflammation responsible for your pain. If the amount of degeneration is more severe, then injection of corticosteroid or viscoelastic supplementationor stem cells may be useful in combination with conservative therapy. If the arthritic change is very severe, then hip replacement may be the answer. Try conservative methods first. I hope you find this information helpful. Take care and be well, Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • What are alternate ways to manage chronic back pain?

Hello, Sorry to hear about your back pain. There is a cause to your pain and it is not a lack of pain killers. So, the cause of your pain needs to be diagnosed and treated effectively. The best treatment for most chronic lower back pain is manipulation of the joints that are causing the pain. That treatment is mostly performed by Chiropractic physicians or "Chiropractors". Find a local Chiropractor with great reviews and seek treatment. Chiropractors perform conservative treatment like manipulation, muscle work, stretching, physical therapy and sometimes acupuncture. If the treatment does not work within 4-6 weeks, an MRI should be ordered to rule out the need for an Orthopedic surgeon consult. Don't wait! Get the condition diagnosed and treated. Good luck and take care. Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Is a chiropractic consultation needed?

It depends on how they are defining a consultation. Typically, a consultation is a discussion to find out if chiropractic would be a good choice to treat your problem. If you injured your back, you are more than likely a good candidate for chiropractic care. The consult is not really necessary. A history and examination would be appropriate to determine a diagnosis and treatment plan. Good luck. I hope you get better soon. Take care and be well. Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • What is the difference between a physical therapist and a chiropractor?

There are many similarities between the treatments that a physical therapist performs and those a Chiropractor performs. Both providers mobilize the affected joints, stretch the affected muscles, perform manual therapies and therapeutic exercise. However, the biggest difference in treatment is the use of manipulation of the joints performed by most Chiropractic physicians. Manipulation is the most effective treatment for most cases of lower back and neck pain. Manipulation used to be the Chiropractic icon. Now, Medical doctors and Physical therapists are being trained to perform the techniques.Another difference between Chiropractors and PT's is that Doctors of Chiropractic (D.C.)s are physicians, not therapists. We are trained to diagnose, radiograph and treat the condition. If you fell and you have back pain, manipulation will probably give you the greatest results the fastest. I hope you find this info helpful. Take care and be well, Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Is chiropractic treatment safe for children?

Chiropractic treatment is absolutely safe for children, teens, and adults. Proper examination should be performed prior to adjustment to determine medical necessity of the treatment. I hope this info is helpful. Take care and be well, Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • How often should my daughter go to the chiropractor?

It depends on the severity and complexity of the problem or injury. Most teenage patients with a low complexity problem would be well served seeing the doctor 2-3 times per week for a month and then be re-evaluated to change therapy protocol. I hope you find this opinion helpful. Take care and be well, Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Why do I feel lower back pain?

Many people have back pain even though there was no particular injury. Misalignment of the sacroiliac joint(s), facet joint irritation or disc pathology often cause lower back pain without any particular injury. Consult a chiropractic physician or an orthopedic physician soon to get an accurate diagnosis and a proper treatment protocol. Take care and be well, Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Does chiropractic care release toxins?

A chiropractic adjustment does not release toxins. It simply restores normal motion patterns to joints that are not moving properly. Muscle work such as massage and deep tissue treatment can release some toxins such as lactic acid into the bloodstream. This is usually not harmful, however, drinking water after a vigorous massage is recommended. I hope you find this information helpful. Take care and be well, Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • I have lower back stiffness. What could it be?

If the stiffness is going from the lower back to the hips, you probably have a problem with your sacroiliac joint. Problems with that joint can affect your paraspinal muscles, glutes, and hip rotators. Get examined by a good chiropractor and treat the problem. Muscle relaxants will not fix the problem. Good luck and take care. Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Can a chiropractor treat hip bursitis?

Yes. First, the cause of the bursitis must be determined. Something has caused the bursa to become inflamed. X-rays should be performed to see if there is something in the joint that may be affecting the surrounding structures such as the bursa. I would recommend Icing the area for 30 minutes every 2-3 hours and stretching the glutes and T.F.L muscles. If you can take ibuprofen, do so to decrease inflammation as well. Chiropractic is a great way to resolve mechanical hip problems that may be causing the bursitis. Good luck. Take care and be well, Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Can chiropractic adjustments help kids with migraines?

Absolutely. Have her examined by a good chiropractic physician. If the doctor is able to find tenderness and muscle tension in the suboccipital area and/or trapezius muscles, manipulation may help. Take care and be well. Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • What should I do with my persistent crick in neck?

It is time to get your neck adjusted by a chiropractic physician. If you have had the "crick in your neck" for that long, it is not going away on its own. Find a healthcare provider that performs manual manipulation of the neck or cervical spine such as a Chiropractor and have the "kink" unkinked. This is the fastest and easiest fix! Good luck and get well soon. Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Is it normal to have pain after first chiropractic adjustment?

Yes. Usually, the adjustment does not erase the pain after one treatment. The problem that has been causing your symptoms will likely take a series of treatments. If you are more sore after the first visit, you may ice the affected area and take ibuprofen if you can. READ MORE

  • Is a chiropractic activator safe for babies?

Absolutely. An activator tool may be used very precisely like a regular manipulation by hand. Some doctors prefer to use it on children because the contact point is smaller. READ MORE

  • Are adjustments dangerous for kids?

Not at all. Adjustments can be performed at all ages. The provider just needs to apply the proper amount of pressure depending on the patients condition, flexibility, frailty, etc. Normally, a child's adjustment would be much lighter than an adults. READ MORE

  • Are chiropractic adjustments safe?

Hello, The answer is yes, absolutely. Your doctor of chiropractic should do an examination and perhaps X-rays to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. However, there is very little risk associated with manipulation of any type when performed by a chiropractic physician. If you do not get relief from the adjustments fairly quickly (6-8 visits), you may need to get an MRI to determine if there is disc pathology contributing to your pain. I hope you find this info helpful and some of your fears are alleviated. Take care and be well. Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Can children get pinched nerves?

Yes, children can get pinched nerves. They can also get muscular strains and sprains and joint misalignments as well. If the symptoms are new, try icing and stretching the affected area for a few days and see if it gets better. If there are symptoms of a pinched nerve like numbness and tingling or weakness in the arm or shoulder, make an appointment to have him examined by a musculoskeletal and nerve pain specialist like a Chiropractor or an Orthopedic doctor. If there is a pinched nerve, then it is very important to determine the cause of pinch and correct the problem before nerve damage occurs. I hope you find this info helpful. Take care and be well, Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • There's still pain after cortisone. What should I do?

Cortisone is just an anti-inflammatory. An injection in your shoulder simply helps to decrease the inflammation. The big question is why is the inflammation there in the first place? You should see a physician that will address the actual cause of the inflammation or symptom "Pain." Chances are that there is an imbalance in the function of the shoulder joint(s). There are 3 motions that need to be in sync, Glenohumeral, Acromioclavicular and Scapulothoracic rhythm. Have a Chiropractor or an Orthopedic doctor evaluate your shoulder and arrive at an accurate diagnosis (MRI may be needed) and get the proper treatment. Cortisone injections work best when the cause of the inflammation is dealt with at the same time. I hope you find this info helpful. Take care and be well, Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Should I go to a chiropractor for a pinched nerve?

Absolutely. Chiropractors are in the business of diagnosing musculoskeletal and nerve related conditions. If there is a pinched or irritated nerve, the D.C. should be able to detect the problem through examination and find a way to take the pressure off the irritated nerve. I hope this information is helpful. Take care and be well, Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • What causes spine pain in children?

Hello, this is Dr. Eric Miller. It may be something as simple as a strained muscle or a slight misalignment in the spine. Kinks happen. If it has been for 3 days, hopefully it is starting to feel better. If not, make an appointment with a local chiropractor with good reviews to have an examination and determine the actual cause of the pain. The pain should be easy to reproduce by finding the tender spot. It will most likely be a muscle or a joint. Once diagnosed, treat it with some manipulation, stretching and muscle work. That should do the trick. In the meantime, try ice and ibuprofen. If ice is not helpful, switch to heat. Also, try to stretch the affected area. I hope this info is helpful.
