  • What mouthwash is best after a root canal?

    Warm salt water. READ MORE

  • Can I get a composite veneer on a tooth with a root canal?

Back teeth need crowns, front teeth, if broken down, need crowns. If weak, need crowns. Otherwise, it is possible, but don't ask here...Ask your dentist as he is familiar with your teeth, mouth, and if you grind your teeth. Good Luck READ MORE

  • Can I get a filling on a root canal?

Sometimes. Back teeth (Molars and Premolars) should be crowned as they experience a lot of stress chewing food. Front teeth which had large fillings and decay should also be crowned as they are very weak. If the front tooth had no decay of fillings and just died from being hit, without a fracture, then it is possible to just fill it, depending on how big the opening is to the canal. I would suggest you as your dentist for your tooth as there is no way to make a determination without seeing it. Good Luck. READ MORE

  • Will I get antibiotics after a root canal?

Antibiotics are not usually required for root canal therapy, certainly not afterward (barring a few medical issues that patients may have). If the root canal is completed, that should mean that the infection is eliminated, so no need for antibiotics. Before treatment, with fever, swelling etc., antibiotics may be given to help control it, Also, do not confuse pain with infection. You can have both pain without infection, or infection without pain. and of course, both pain and infection. Treatment should not be completed until all pain and infection is gone. Good Luck READ MORE

  • Do teeth become weak after a root canal?

The tooth may dry out, weakening it or it may already be weakened by decay. This is why, after root canal therapy, they should be restored, preferably with a crown. Good Luck READ MORE

  • Can a root canal cause swollen gums?

Yes. Usually minor lasting 1 or 2 days. If LARGE swelling or pain, speak to your dentist or endodontist! READ MORE

  • Is a root canal procedure done under local anesthesia?

    Usually. READ MORE

  • Is root canal procedure safe?

Yes. Millions are performed every year. If it is complicated or if you have doubts, see an endodontist (root canal specialist.) Good Luck READ MORE

  • When can I drink alcohol after a root canal?

Usually, any time, but check with your dentist, especially if you are given pain meds, etc. Good Luck READ MORE

  • How long does pain last after a root canal?

It varies, but usually one day, take advil right away if you can. Not really bad, but like I say, it can vary. Good Luck READ MORE

  • How painful is a root canal procedure?

Once you are anesthetized and nice and numb, there should be no pain, just pressure like getting your hair cut. Of course there can be exceptions, like if you ignore the tooth until it becomes so painful or sensitive or swollen, where you weren't sleeping at night due to pain, then it can be more difficult to numb up. A HOT TOOTH. Your endodontist (root canal specialist) can usually handle this. Good Luck. READ MORE

  • Is it painful to have a root canal?

No pain once you are numbed up, like a filling usually. There are times when it can be painful, but that typically is if you wait allowing it to worsen. Good Luck. READ MORE

  • How long should I wait to get a crown after a root canal?

You should ideally get the crown as soon as possible, but after *ALL PAIN *is gone, no sensitivity, twinges, soreness, awareness, etc. Good Luck READ MORE

  • How should I sleep after a root canal?

It won't matter how you sleep, on your back, belly, side, alone or with the person of your choice (consensual) or with your pet. It's not that bad. Good Luck. READ MORE

  • How do you avoid a root canal after a filling?

Assuming the nerves are healthy and not already damaged, and the dentist uses good technique and not damage the tooth doing the filling, then to avoid future root canals on that tooth, you must have PERFECT hygiene - brushing and flossing CORRECTLY and often. NO SUGAR, Candy, Sodas, etc. Visit your dentist every 6 months for a checkup, NO SMOKING, Fluoride treatments - even if insurance won't cover it. No uncontrolled diabetes, dry mouth etc. NO GRINDING YOUR TEETH, NO new decay on that tooth. These cover the basics. Luck Helps. Good Luck. READ MORE

  • How long does jaw cyst surgery take?

Too vague a question. Therefore, an equally vague response: From 15 minutes to many hours. It depends on the type of cyst, the location of the cyst, the doctor or team removing the cyst, your health, etc. The best thing to do is to ask the oral surgeon doing it how long it takes. Good Luck. READ MORE

  • Is it okay to get a crown without a root canal?

It is done all the time. Often a root canal will be needed afterward. You are getting the crown for a reason, deep decay, broken down etc. The tooth could have been damaged inwardly towards the pulp as well as externally necessitating the crown. I would suggest seeing an endodontist for an opinion about the likelihood of needing a root canal after the crown. If it seems likely, then doing the root canal first will save some headaches with the tooth acting up and damaging a brand-new crown to do the root canal. The root canal can always be done after the crown, but then the crown needs to be repaired or replaced, but if a fracture is found, you lose the tooth AND the new crown. Good luck. READ MORE

  • Can I get a bridge without a root canal?

Yes, but you may wish to have an endodontist test/evaluate the teeth first. If the teeth are "clean", then a bridge is fine. With deep fillings, decayed old crowns, not many teeth, close to the nerves, (nerves test dead or weak or exposed or infection visible on x-ray or pus draining through gums from the tooth) you can evaluate and treat the root canal before the bridge is done. The root canal can be done after the bridge, but then you have a hole in a new bridge. READ MORE

  • How long do teeth last after a root canal?

It all depends. Every case is different. If the root canal was done well and you properly restored it afterward and if you take immaculate care of it with proper brushing and flossing, no accidents, no grinding teeth etc., it can potentially last a lifetime. Note: a lousy, poor root canal will last a lifetime if you (god forbid) get killed in a car accident on your way home, but if you live to be 200 years old, it probably won't. Honestly, there is no way to know how long it will last. If you have a good endodontist and good restorative dentist, I would expect it to last.If they didn't last, no one would bother to do it. Good Luck READ MORE

  • How long after the root canal can I eat?

Depends on the question. You can eat immediately, but be careful not to chew up lips, tongue, cheek, etc. Wait until cement sets...5 minutes to 1/2 hour. Don't let yourself get burnt. On the other hand, you can ask your dentist how long, but if you are hungry and go to an All-You-Can-Eat Buffet, I have seen people eat for hours Seriously, ask your dentist to advise you. Good Luck READ MORE
