  • How many root canals can you have done at once?

That depends on many things. If the 2 root canals are in the same tooth (a 2 rooted tooth) then you would do both at the same time. If you separate teeth, then you can do one or both, depending on several things. Are they next to each other or separated (opposite jaws or sides of the mouth, How difficult are they? Can you keep your mouth open long enough? Wide enough? Your endodontist (root canal specialist) is the best. READ MORE

  • Should I be concerned about root canal pain?

Slight discomfort improving daily is relatively normal. Usually OTC meds (ibuprofen, acetaminophen) helps. If the pain is constant, increasing. READ MORE

  • How long after a root canal can I eat?

It depends on a number of factors. How long can you eat? Some people spend 5 minutes snacking. Others will take hours at an all you can eat buffet. You shouldn't rush your meals, you'll get indigestion. Now, if you are asking how long you have to wait after the root canal to eat, then it is variable. I tell my patients to wait 5 minutes for the temporary to set. Then they may eat *BUT*, if they are still numb, they have to be careful not to bite their lip, tongue, cheek, and not to burn themselves. READ MORE

  • What is the best mouthwash to use after a root canal?

I don't recommend mouth washes. If there is a need, warm salt water only. READ MORE

  • Is gum pain normal after root canal?

Yes, many times there is no pain or slight pain. Sometimes severe pain and swelling. It could be sore from the anesthetic injections or infection or the bite can be off. OTC meds like ibuprofen, acetaminofen, naproxen are often good (I prefer the nsaids). If it persists and check with your endodontist. If it hurts every time you bite down, have the bite adjusted so you don't hit the tooth. Often inflammation will elevate the tooth out of the jaw a bit so you hit it too hard or the temporary filling might be too high. READ MORE

  • Can you put a crown on a tooth without a root canal?

Yes. You may wish to have it evaluated by an endodontist (root canal specialist) first to confirm it is still healthy. Root canals can be done after the crown, but then you risk damaging the crown by removing the crown, or drilling through it. READ MORE

  • Is it normal to have gum pain after a root canal?

Yes, it is normal, though most patients have little to no pain at all. Usually, OTC meds like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can handle it. Some patients can have severe pain and swelling. You should consult your endodontist for specific problems relating to you. READ MORE

  • How can I treat the pain of a root canal?

See your endodontist (root canal specialist) ASAP. Meds may help, but cannot cure the problem. Good Luck. READ MORE

  • How do dentists treat pulpitis?

Pulpitis is usually irreversible. Treatment is root canal therapy or extraction (or do nothing and suffer until you can't tolerate more). Good Luck. READ MORE

  • What can I take for root canal pain?

Call your dentist to be seen. Often the bite has to be adjusted. Or get a referral to an endodontist (root canal specialist). Endodontists deal with pain daily. Good Luck. READ MORE

  • How long do fillings last on baby teeth?

Hopefully, until the baby teeth come out. Good Luck! READ MORE

  • Do you need anesthesia for cavity filling?

Sometimes. Depends on how deep it is, how sensitive it is, if the nerves are alive (if dead, need root canal therapy). Everyone has different tolerances for pain. You can always start without anesthesia, but if it hurts, then get some. The choice is yours. Good Luck! READ MORE

  • Can you chew gum with a temporary filling?

Yes, sugarless. And when your gum pulls out the temporary filling, be sure to get back to your dentist right away to replace the temporary filling. READ MORE

  • Is a root canal necessary before the dental bridge?

Not always. It depends on the condition of the teeth supporting the bridge. You can get a consultation from an endodontist before the bridge is done, or while you still have a temporary bridge. You don't have to have a root canal first, but if it is deep, it is easier and better to do it before the bridge is permanently cemented on. The root canal can be done after the bridge is in, but then if you develop a problem, the bridge will be damaged doing the root canal after it is in. See an endodontist first. Good luck. READ MORE

  • Why is pulpitis more painful at night?

Many possibilities. Here are some. Probably because you lay down and more blood is now going to your head increasing pressure, or, you are lying awake, trying to go to sleep and your mind is clear so the tooth is now more noticeable where as before, you had other things on your mind, or the infection is worsening day by day, or you need the root canal and the tooth is reminding you. See your endodontist ASAP. Good Luck. READ MORE

  • How long does it take for an inflamed tooth nerve to heal?

Usually it doesn't. See your endodontist as soon as possible. Good Luck READ MORE

  • What is the best painkiller for tooth nerve pain?

An endodontist (root canal specialist) is the best painkiller for nerve pain from root canals. They remove the nerve. If there is no nerve, how can it hurt? Nothing else comes close. Good luck. READ MORE

  • Is it normal for a root canal to hurt months later?

No, though not unheard of. Possible residual nerve, the bite can be off, a different tooth. Speak to an endodontist (root canal specialist) asap. READ MORE

  • Is severe pain normal after a root canal?

It can be painful, but usually a few days at most. See an endodontist (root canal specialist) asap. READ MORE
