How to calm nerves before seeing a proctologist?
It really depends on the reason for your visit but there is really no reason to be overly worried or nervous. Typically you would have a consultation in the office followed by an examination. The exam may include having a small diameter scope inserted in the rectum to help visualize your problem. Some types of problems do not require a scope, in which case the examination may be mostly visual. If you have an abscess or thrombosed hemorrhoid you may require a minor procedure in the office which may be slightly uncomfortable but you will be given a local anesthetic. Originally from Evansville, Indiana, Dr. Bennett pursued his education at Tufts University in Boston before attending medical school at the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He chose to remain in the DC area in order to complete his internship and residency at George Washington University, as well as his fellowship training at Suburban Hospital.
As a member of the American Medical Association and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, Dr. Bennett meets the standards and guidelines required of the nation’s leading physicians and surgeons.
