Can hanging straighten your spine?
Unfortunately, hanging upside down will not be effective at straightening your spine. Your muscles will contract tightly to insure that you are held together. It is well agreed in the medical community that inversion should be at a maximum of 60 degrees and only done by those that have been screened properly to be free of any vascular complication. Can chiropractic neck adjustments cause dizziness?
An adjustment can cause temporary dizziness that should disappear within a few minutes. If it does not, or happens more than once, then new imaging should be done starting with complete cervical spine X-ray. Based upon what is seen there, an carotid ultrasound imaging would also be prudent. READ MORE
What pillow do chiropractors recommend?
I will typically recommend pillows based upon each patients individual needs and if a patient is typically a side or back sleeper. Side sleepers need a pillow that will fill the entire distance from the bed to the side of the head so that the head and neck are not tipped up nor down. Back sleepers needs pillow appropriated sized for good support under the curve of the neck so that the chin does not pitch up nor down and the face is neutral relative to the shoulders. READ MORE
Why do chiropractors check leg length?
Leg length is determined both anatomically and physiologically. Anatomical leg length is evaluated via X-ray and is very important information as an anatomical short leg will cause imbalances in how your body is able to relate relative to gravity. Anatomical short leg of more than 5 millimeters can cause spinal curvatures and lead to scoliosis. Physiological short legs are evaluated laying face down or face up and are caused by imbalances in spinal muscular tone which can be caused by many issues including upper cervical misalignment, pelvic imbalance, muscle strain etc. Leg length is a very important part of the information needed to properly care for our patients and your chiropractor should understand and evaluate you for both types. Can rounded shoulders cause breathing problems?
Rounding of the shoulders is likely a sign of a spinal problem in your neck from computer and / or phone use, upper back problems or both. The nerves that connect to your spinal cord have to go through holes created by two spinal bones. Pressure on those nerves from decreased normal motion can cause abnormal muscle tension and spasm as well as decreased electrical messaging to vital organs like heart and lungs. In my over 30 years of practice I have had 100's of patients regain normal breathing and lung capacity from proper spinal health care. I suggest seeking out comprehensive spinal health care from a competent chiropractic office that will take spinal X-ray as part of the evaluation process. In the mean time, be more posture conscience. Sit tall, stand tall, stretch the muscles of your chest and shoulders and be aware to let your shoulders hang under your ears. READ MORE
