Get to know Dermatologist Dr. Joseph R. Payne, who serves patients in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Payne is a board-certified dermatologist and a highly experienced Mohs skin cancer removal surgeon. He is skilled in cosmetic injectables such as Botox, Dysport and Restylane & specializes in skin cancer removal treatments such as photodynamic therapy, topical chemotherapy, and cryosurgery. Currently, he is a partner at Dermatology Associates of Atlanta, P.C., which he joined in 2007.

As your “skin care home,” Dermatology Associates of Atlanta, P.C. is a comprehensive dermatology practice with ten distinct specialty centers: The Dermatology Center, Skin Medics™ Medical Spa, The Hair Removal Center, The Laser Institute of Georgia, The Center of Hair Restoration and Research, The Center for Women’s Hair Loss, The Psoriasis Treatment Center, The Atlanta Center for Veins, The Eczema Center, and The Surgical Suite. A graduate of Duke University School of Medicine, Dr. Payne performed his internship at Duke University Hospital and his residency in dermatology at George Washington University Hospital. In 2001, he was named as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy.  After his naval service, he went on to work as the Department Head of Dermatology at Naval Hospital Jacksonville.  

Specializing in skin care from head to toe, the doctor is board-certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology (ABD). The ABD is a voluntary, non-profit, private, autonomous organization formed for the primary purpose of protecting the public interest by establishing and maintaining high standards of training, education, and qualifications of physicians rendering care in dermatology.

An expert in his field, Dr. Payne maintains active memberships with the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the American Society for Mohs Surgery. He has hospital affiliations with Northside Hospital Forsyth and Saint Joseph’s Hospital of Atlanta.

Dermatology is the branch of medicine dealing with the skin, the largest organ of the body; a specialty with both medical and surgical aspects. A dermatologist is a specialist doctor who manages skin diseases and deals with both internal and external causes and some cosmetic concerns involving the skin. Dermatological duties include taking consultations, providing screening tests, and undertaking non-invasive surgical procedures.

In honor of his 20+ year clinical expertise, Dr. Payne is the recipient of On-Time Doctor Award (2016) and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2016).
