After receiving my associates in biology, I attended the Tri-State College of Acupuncture in Manhattan and earned my Masters of Science in Acupuncture. There I learned the unique style of Acupuncture Physical Medicine (aka trigger point dry needling). Developed by our headmaster Mark Seem and based on Janet Travell's books on trigger points, this technique releases "knots" in muscles to alleviate musculoskeletal pain and even internal visceral symptoms (such as chest pain or digestive disorders) without the harmful injections of steroids or numbing agents. I was also well versed in many other tricks that go with the trade such as moxabustion, electro-acupuncture, cupping and gua sha. Currently, I am studying Classical Chinese Medicine under the mentorship of Timothy Aitken, a master practitioner and specialist in pediatric acupuncture. Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into strategic points on the body to achieve overall wellness. This technique developed over 3,000 years ago and takes a holistic approach to healing. All the symptoms that you're feeling come down to one root diagnosis: an imbalance between internal organs, and/or pathology that has made it's way into your body. Acupuncture works to correct these imbalances and pathologies by supporting your body's natural ability to heal itself. You and I are a team. That means that you have as big a role in your healing as I do. You have the ultimate control over your body and it is up to you to exercise it. Your health is your responsibility, and your healthcare team is here to support you.

My Blog
On my website, you'll find a blog that I use to provide a basic education in the theories of acupuncture. I feel that the more one understands about acupuncture and how it works, the better connection they have to their treatments and the better their response. I also like to use that space to...

What point do you press for a cold?
There are several points we use to treat colds. To determine which is best, I recommend you see your acupuncturist. In the meantime, I recommend my patients drink ginger-scallion broth to help speed up recovery. Here's how you make it: 1 piece of ginger about the size of your thumb, peeled and sliced 1 bunch of scallions, cut up the green and the white parts, only discard the roots at the very end Add the ginger and scallion to ~4c of water and boil it for ~5 minutes. Once it's cooled a bit, drink 1c of the broth, bundle up, and sweat it out. Do this daily until you're no longer feeling symptoms. If you really hate the taste (don't feel bad, you're not alone!), add the ginger and scallion to chicken soup. READ MORE

How does acupuncture help relieve stress?
Studies show that acupuncture relieves stress by changing your body from the sympathetic nervous state, to a parasympathetic nervous state. What that means is that it stops your body from continuing the "fight or flight" response, which allows you to relax. READ MORE
Pain from acupuncture slippers?
I have a bit of a vendetta against acupuncture/acupressure shoes and mats because they can do more harm than good. While the massage may feel nice, to stimulate so many points simultneously is sending your body way too many signals. I liken it to trying to listen to several radio stations at the same time. To speak on the shoes specifically, they can be overstimulating your Kidney's which can cause back pain, but they may also be changing your posture, weight distribution, and how you walk which can also cause back pain. READ MORE
Can acupuncture help the flu?
Yes. Acupuncture can be used to prevent the flu by strengthening your immune system, and can be used to treat it and speed up your recovery. READ MORE
Can you get acupuncture while sick?
You can. Acupuncture may be able to help alleviate your symptoms and speed up your recovery when you are feeling sick. READ MORE
How long does acupressure take to work?
That depends on how long you've had the condition, and who is applying the acupressure. If you are applying the acupressure to yourself, where you found the points can also affect your success. Many of the points found online can be effective but there are others that may be more so. To learn which points are best for you, I recommend you see an acupuncturist for guidance. If you are already seeing an acupuncturist, I recommend giving it 5-8 treatments. If you're not feeling any changes throughout your body, try another practitioner or a different style of acupuncture. READ MORE
How do you stop a toothache fast with acupressure?
That depends on why you are feeling the toothache. I recommend you first see your dentist to make sure there aren't any cavities, abcesses, or other conditions that may need specific dental care. If all is well, visit your acupuncturist so they can determine why you are feeling the tooth pain and provide you with a plan of action in the moment of a flare up. READ MORE
Why is acupuncture so relaxing?
Because it's changing your body from a sympathetic nervous state to a parasympathetic nervous state. Meaning it stops the "fight or flight" respose. It also releases endorphins and can change your brain function to a state similar to what is achieved through meditation. READ MORE

Can acupuncture hit a nerve?
It can. Though it does little to no damage to the nerve itself, this is why it is very important to make sure your acupuncturist is licensed. A licensed acupuncturist has had full training in acupuncture from an acredited college and therefore has a deep understanding of anatomy and proper needling depth. READ MORE
