  • Do you need a deep cleaning before getting crowns?

Definitely, you need to take care of your periodontal health. That is your foundation. Without healthy bone, you will lose your bone and then your teeth. It is bone that holds the teeth in your jaw. No matter how you restore your teeth, the end result would be poor if you left your gums untreated! I know gum disease is primarily painless until it is too late, which of course makes your decision that more difficult. Think about it, you would not build a house on a poor foundation. Same thing applies. Dr. Allen READ MORE

  • Are sealants bad for your teeth?

No, sealants are not harmful, there is no drilling just a thin layer is placed on the biting surface of the teeth to cover the normal anatomy (pits & fissures) to protect against cavities. Usually placed only on molars. If you are 24 & have no cavities, there is no need to place sealants @ your age. READ MORE

  • What dentures are best for teeth?

If you need dentures, that means you do not have teeth. To determine b/n conventional dentures vs. implant supported is determined by anatomy (palatial vault, bone ridge height …. & of course your finances. Removable partial dentures are determine by the dental health of the remaining teeth, the number of teeth, & aesthetics (metal vs. Valplast). Dr. Allen READ MORE

  • Can mini implants be used on the upper jaw?

Mini implants were never supposed to be used for long term. Therefore I do not recommend them. If you need retention for your upper denture, I would invest in @ least two, preferably 4 locator implants for your upper denture READ MORE

  • Should you wet your toothbrush before brushing dentures?

That is a personal preference. What you should be more concerned with is using the proper product to clean your denture. Dentu-Cream is recommended over regular toothpaste (Amazon, Walmart, Ebay). It is not as abrasive and is kinder to the denture. READ MORE

  • Does wisdom teeth removal cause bone loss?

The removal of 3rd molars (wisdom teeth) do not cause bone loss. That being said, sometimes a small amount of bone must be sacrificed depending on the extent of the impaction. READ MORE

  • Can you get partial dentures for back teeth?

It is not advisable not to replace the crown that was lost for several reasons. 1) Since the prepped tooth no longer has enamel, it is very vulnerable to decay, which may lead to a root canal or tooth loss. 2) There will be shifting/drifting of adjacent teeth, and super eruption of opposing teeth. All these factors will interfere with your occlusion (bite), which can cause issues with your joint (TMJ). READ MORE

  • Is it too late to straighten my teeth?

It is never too late to have ortho. Adult orthodontics is quite common. There are many options available today from conventional braces to clear aligners, depending on the involvement of your case. It is an easy referral from your dentist to the specialist they have a working relationship with. READ MORE

  • What can I do about my yellow teeth?

The shade of you teeth depends on many factors (genetics, disease, food or drinks). Color of teeth range in a spectrum of yellow to grays. Everyone is different. Some of the color is internal (coming from the inside). During development, or external, (outside sources) such as food & drinks is blueberries, red wine, coffee.... Recommendation would be OTC whiteners or expensive in-office whitening systems. All are temporary and will need to be re done to maintain. READ MORE

  • How can I prevent dental cavities?

Good oral hygiene: brushing @ least 2x/ day for at least 2 minutes each time flossing daily , OTC Fluoride (ACT or Act Restore), but nothing will work well if you have a sugary diet, drink pop, sports drinks, alcohol. Other factors would be GERD (heartburn) - a lot of acid destruction, dry mouth (xerostomia). You could also have your saliva tested to see if you have a high acidic content. Hope this helps :) READ MORE
