  • Loose tooth

Hi, Sorry to hear about your tooth. You should go and see a dentist quickly! They will be able to stabilize and monitor the tooth. Stabilizing the tooth is very important, putting it back in place is the initial step, but unless it is stabilized, it may not work. Hope this makes sense. Thanks and good luck! READ MORE

  • Can a toothpaste help with tooth sensitivity?

Hi Using a desensitizing toothpaste does help with sensitivity due to exposed root and/or dentin. However, you will need to visit your dentist for an exam as some sensitivity occur due to cavities. Sensitivity to hot can also indicate an issue with the tooth pulp. To rule out these scenarios a visit with your dentist will help. Using desensitizing toothpaste for exposed root surface or dentin will help, it takes around 4-6 months to feel the effect and you will need to use this toothpaste on a permanent basis! Hope this helps ! Thanks READ MORE

  • What is gingivitis and its risk factors?

Hi, Gingivitis is a term used to describe inflammation of the gums. The main cause is plaque sitting on your teeth/gums for an extended period of time. Gingivitis is reversible. Proper oral hygiene and brushing habits can keep gingivitis from occurring. Do remember to brush your tongue! Signs of gingivitis include red gums at the margins with rolled out borders. Bad breath is also seen with gum disease although more often with periodontitis (gingivitis with bone loss). Visit your dentist every six months for scale. Hope this helps. Thanks READ MORE

  • Can you suggest some way to reduce sensitivity?

Hi Tooth sensitivity can occur due to cavities, exposed root surfaces due to gum recession or exposed dentin. Treatment depends on the etiology. For cavities it’s a filling, for exposed dentin a filling would be best and a nightguard to prevent any abfractions lesions, for gum recession a gum graft would be best. Use a desensitizing toothpaste, soft toothbrush and fluoride rinse. Visit your dentist for managed care. Hope this helped. Thanks READ MORE

  • Can I do teeth whitening with a front half fake incisor?

Hi, Ideally, you would whiten your teeth PRIOR to a crown! You cannot whiten a crown! If the root canal treated tooth has discolored, ask your dentist about internal bleaching for that tooth. Once this is done and the tooth is back to its original shade and you have completed whitening/bleaching for your teeth, generally, then proceed with the crown and match it to the now whitened teeth. Do remember that bleached teeth require maintenance and touch ups with whitening every 6 months or so. This will have to be done to maintain. Remember, the crown will always be this color! Hope that made sense. Thanks READ MORE

  • I had a root canal and the same tooth is hurting again. What should I do?

Hi, Do visit your dentist. He will have to take an X-ray. If the tooth was fine for 3 months and now it just started being sore again, you may have fractured it. Did you have a crown placed on the tooth? If the dentist is unable to figure out why, you may need a CBCT scan or a referral to an endodontist. Hope this helps. Thanks READ MORE

  • What are the most visible signs and symptoms of a gum disease?

First of all, thank you for such a great question! It pleases me that you are concerned about your family’s oral health. Visiting the dentist regularly for check ups and cleanings is the number one way to keep on top of gum and any other dental concerns. Swollen, or red gums, bad breath, bleeding gums while flossing or not, gum discoloration, recession, are all signs of gum and oral issues. Most of these signs and symptoms are treatable if caught early. Your dental office should give you information on home care to suit your individual needs. I hope this answers your question and helps you and your family! READ MORE

  • Can a gum infection pass to other parts of the body?

It has been shown that the bacteria causing gum disease are in fact the same as those which cause heart disease. So thinking and treating the body as one system rather than independent of each other is the paradigm shift in how we look at health in general. You should attend to your dentist regularly for checkups and maintain good oral hygiene with proper home care. READ MORE

  • Front tooth cavity

The most obvious solutions are veneers or crowns ... these are porcelain and will resist stains and colors. Another option is a resin like you currently have but using an invisible margin the dentist pulls the resin into the contacts thereby achieving a homogenous fill which will resist much of the staining!! Hope this helps! READ MORE

  • How can I stop pushing on my front teeth when I swallow?

The reverse swallow is a habit which should have been broken prior to start of your orthodontic treatment to prevent future relapse. This habit is broken using a tongue thrust habit breaker appliance. At this point see your orthodontist or dentist to get a retainer (make sure you are compliant in wearing this at nights) and possibly design it to prevent a tongue thrust. Even a consultation with an orthodontist will give you options. Hope this helps. READ MORE

  • Do dentists offer services to the uninsured?

Yes, of course. Many dentists prefer not to deal with insurances. Depending on the dental office, payment plans will be available. Some dental offices offer in-house payment plans, others go through a third party. READ MORE

  • How often to use mouth wash?

Sure, using fluoride mouth rinse is a good adjunct to proper daily home care. There are no adverse effects in using it twice daily. READ MORE

  • Skin is shedding on the inside of my mouth (my cheeks). Is this normal?

Does the skin only shed while you sleep?? Do you wear a nightguard?? When the shedding stared was there a change in your toothpaste?? Yes, if your toothpaste is new, it can cause an allergic reaction. Also, using a mouthwash may cause this... I would recommend seeing your dentist for further investigation. READ MORE

  • What can I eat or avoid eating to reduce plaque?

Sounds like you are doing everything right!! Plaque forms instantly and is present in everyone. The key is to control it by brushing twice and flossing. There is no real panacea to preventing plaque from occurring. Drinking water and keeping your mouth moist with salivary flow is also beneficial. Sometimes sharp edges or grooves will collect plaque quicker. Make sure your teeth are smooth. If you have fillings or other restorative work have your dentist check them for any ridges, or rough areas. READ MORE

  • Can a tooth abscess be seen on an X-ray?

If the abscess is long standing it may be visual in the mouth as a bubble and when pressed pus/ exudate is expelled. An abscess can be seen on xrays as a dark area around the apex of the tooth if the tooth is the cause of the infection ie. a deep cavity. The tooth may also be painful to the touch or no longer vital and not respond to cold/hot test. Your dentist will be able to ascertain whether an abscess is present. READ MORE

  • What are the most visible signs and symptoms of a gum disease?

HI there, The most common sign is bleeding gums...the other signs do require a closer look, but also include (not limited to) - rolled out borders adjacent to teeth, dark red color rather than a pink hue. Brushing and flossing is the best prevention. Hope this helped. READ MORE

  • Pain after a filling?

Fillings can be sore for a while if they were very deep... and slowly become asymptomatic. However, a high bite will also cause pain - especially when chewing and possibly with cold drinks. I would recommend getting your bite checked with the dentist. Hope this helps! READ MORE

  • Is reflux giving me bad breath?

The most common cause of bad breath is gum disease, but also know that your diet can have an effect. Some foods will cause bad breath. Stomach issues can also cause halitosis. Certain medications also have this effect. Gastric reflux is highly acidic and can also wear down the enamel of your teeth. Getting the reflux in check is very important. READ MORE
