Get to know Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon Dr. Barry J. Cohen, who serves patients in Rockville, Maryland.

Dr. Cohen is a fully-trained, board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with a private practice located in Rockville, Maryland. He practices all areas of plastic and reconstructive surgery, with areas of greatest interest in cosmetic surgery.

From skincare to scalpel, some of the services that he performs include the following: body procedures, breast procedures, facial procedures, non-surgical facial procedures, men procedures, and burn reconstruction. 

After graduating from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry, Dr. Cohen went on to complete his medical school training at Georgetown University School of Medicine. He then served as his residency in general surgery at a well-known trauma center, MedStar Washington Hospital Center, where he won numerous awards for both his clinical and research skills. Thereafter, he completed his plastic surgery training in New York with The Long Island Plastic Surgical Group, which is the largest group of plastic surgeons in the world. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Georgetown Washington University.

In addition to his extensive clinical training, Dr. Cohen has published numerous articles in the field of plastic surgery. He is Founder and Senior Partner of the Washington Plastic Surgery Group, located in the D.C. metropolitan area. His current hospital affiliations include: Suburban Hospital, Shady Grove Hospital, and Fairfax Hospital.  

As a testament to his success, the doctor is board-certified in plastic surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). The mission of the ABPS is to promote safe, ethical, efficacious plastic surgery to the public by maintaining high standards for the education, examination, certification, and continuous certification of plastic surgeons as specialists and subspecialists.

In order to stay up to date in his field, Dr. Cohen remains an active member of the American Burn Association, the National Capital Area Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, and the American Lipoplasty Society.

Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty involving the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of the human body. It can be divided into two main categories - reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery. A plastic surgeon’s primary responsibility is performing surgical and non-surgical procedures, and they use a variety of reparative and reconstructive techniques to get the job done.
