Dr. Rita Kathawa is a Bariatric Medicine specialist and is founder of Michigan Weight Loss Institute. She is a dual board certified physician in Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine. As a bariatrician, she is an expert in the diagnosis, treatment and overall medical management of obesity and weight related comorbidities. She utilizes FDA approved medications along with lifestyle modifications and surgical referral when appropriate. Additionally, she works closely with bariatric surgeons to help augment surgical weight loss results and avoid/treat weight regain in the setting of bariatric surgery.
Dr. Rita Kathawa completed her undergraduate and graduate training in Nutritional Sciences at Wayne State University. She earned her MD degree at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and completed residency at Ascension Health. She then pursued additional post graduate training in the field of Obesity Medicine through Harvard Medical School.
