Is the blinking of eyes a reflex action?
There are many reasons for increased blinking rate in eyes. We need to rule out medical issues first, such as seizures or thyroid issues, or even eye issues. I would rather have you get him evaluated from his pediatrician first and let him make the decision of who next to see. I generally don’t see this in my practice as it relates to stress. Hope that helps, please go to the pediatrician. READ MORE

What are the benefits of using cognitive behavioral therapy versus using behavioral therapy?
I’m sorry for your loss. It must be hard for anyone to lose a loved one. I'm truly sorry. Typically, supportive therapy is best for normal grief. So, I would choose that, but that does not answer your question. I like CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) as it helps identify Cognitive Distortions (“wrong thinking patterns”), whereas Behavioral Therapy, like the name suggests, gets rid of unwanted behavior patterns. So, once again, for frief, just get him supportive grief counseling. Sorry for your loss again. Hope this helps. READ MORE
How to help child who is having trouble sleeping?
Make sure that he is not doing distance learning in the bedroom. The bedroom should be equated with sleep only and Not home work or school. Secondly, how much school work is there, lots? Thirdly, boys are active, he needs to have time to be outside and run and play. There has been lots of changes with the new distant learning. Thank you for being a great parent!!! Hope that helps. Is long-term use of Prozac safe?
Yes. The only black box warning is increased suicide ideations, typically within the first few days of starting. Since he has started some time ago, and seems to be stable, this is likely not a concern. He should have had some basic blood work done to ensure the body is tolerating the medication and his platelets are still functioning appropriately and no easy bruising. If not, ask for some basic blood work and continue. That being said, there should be a time where the medication should be decreased or terminated, if medical provider sees fit. There are certain conditions that this can be done, so just follow up with whomever is prescribing the medication. Hope that helps. READ MORE

How do kids feel safe going to school after everything?
That’s a great question! I, too, have young children and the best we can do in an environment of constant change and fear is to try our best “re-normalize it.” What I mean is for children, being sensitive to what they are hearing and watching and observing from us. For example, if we are focused on watching the news and catching up on the latest news on COVID numbers and fatalities, it only reinforces your childrens’ fears and nightmares. So, turn off the news. What is individual cognitive behavioral therapy?
Wow, great question. Cognitive Behavioral therapy, is simple looking at how your thoughts shape what you think and act. We call it “cognitive Distortions.” Such as “no one likes me.” Where in reality, that’s not true, but that’s what makes this a cognitive distortion. So in an individual therapy session, they will listen to you and see what your thoughts are and how that effects your feelings and actions and hopefully provide some therapeutic corrective advise,. Hope that helps, great question, you are very smart! READ MORE
Can a psychologist help with panic attacks?
Sorry about the panic attacks, first make sure there are no underline medical conditions. Such as Thyroid or anything else that can cause panic attacks. If not, then generally a Psychologist or any trained therapist should be able to assist in treating a panic attack. Unless if you need medications, then a psychiatrist would be your best choice. But try the therapy first. Good luck, you can do it! READ MORE
