Dr. Bernstein obtained his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Oakland University in 1973 and his Masters in Biochemistry from WSU School of Medicine in 1976. He was a medical researcher at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, Michigan, specializing in bone and mineral research from 1976 to 1981 before obtaining his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree  from the University of Detroit in 1985
