Another cold and rainy day, I could hardly move this morning. Everything ached, my head was spinning 'but I did get up'. If it wasn't for the home support staff, that comes most mornings at 7 am, Maybe I'd spend the day in bed. I also have many other issues that help to make my body, feel crapy. When you have a fibro flare-up, what are your symptoms? How is it triggered?

When the flare-ups occur I'm usually depressed, then it goes downhill from there. I always manage to get up and shower. Then I take my medications and try to eat healthily. I am also living with 'Multiple Myeloma', which is a blood cancer that can trigger anything, so I have to be aware of the differences. I will have to start treatment soon.

How do you manage a fibro flare-up?

When this happens I take medications, such as celecoxib 200 mg and citalopram, one is for the pain and the other is for depression. I also find if I can, I stay up and try to do a project, such as a laundry or cooking something that would last a few days. I live alone so they (the projects) have to be done. During the day I rest when I can but I try to be the best I can be. Life isn't easy for any of us with fibro, but we have to make it the best it can be, for ourselves.

Does your family and loved ones help you when you have a flare-up?

No, I manage with the 'home support workers'. I have two brothers that live 30 miles away from me. One is 78 and he has his own issues, cancer and a bad heart. My other brother is 63, he is phone support for me, and he has health issues himself. I have one sister, she is working for 'Mental Health' daily and her health isn't good either. This leaves me with a few good friends, that haven't a clue what my condition is. If you can't see it, people just don't understand it!!!!
