Your retainer will feel tight and possibly too tight to wear
At your age you MUST wear it daily you dont have towear it at night as soon you get ready to go to schoolput it on if you dontyou are delaying your treatmemt, At lunch take it out and after that you must wearagain at dinner time take it out and go to bed If you ca sleep with it ok but not mandatory Follow the doctors instructionsand may be by 12 0r early you,ll be done!!!!!!!!!
Wearing retainers is a important phase on your orthodontic treatment. Once your braces comes off your Orthodontist will give you instructions on how to wear your retainers properly. The American Association of Orthodontist and scientific Studies report and recommend to wear your retainers for life every night (8-12 hours per day) in order to maintain the position and the alignment of your teeth. If you do not wear your retainers properly it might be a chance that your teeth starts to move and shift to a improper position. But if you forget to wear your retainer for 3 days my recommendation is for you to wear the retainer for a couple of days full time (24 hours) and then go back for night times only.
Teeth could shift. Please wear your retainer as recommended by your orthodontist as soon as you can to help set them back to where they need to be if any movement occurred.
You should contact your Orthodontist to make sure what to do but this is what I tell my patients: Your teeth may have moved and it might be tight and give some discomfort to put the retainers back in. You may have to take some Tylenol or Advil for discomfort if you are not allergic. I would try to wear the retainer full time for a few days until the retainer fits all the way down as it did before. If your teeth have moved and you can not get your retainer back in: then you should see your orthodontist and you may need some minor adjustments or a new retainer
After teeth have been moved, the ligaments around the roots of the teeth are stretched, or distorted...and like stretched rubber bands, they want to pull the teeth back where they were....this is called 'relapse'. The longer a retainer is left out off, the more the teeth can relapse...so wearing the retainers as directed is a very good idea, unless you want to go through more orthodontic treatment!
Usually nothing happens. But its better not to skip wearing retainers. There is a huge risk that the teeth might shift, and you will not e ale to fit the retainer again.
