Infection, hormone imbalance, and foreign bodies: retained tampon, diaphragm, or pessary can all cause unpleasant vaginal odors.

A bacterial infection caused by anaerobic bacteria will release chemicals called amines. They have an unpleasant odor. It can be caused by poor hygiene, bubble baths or dietary changes. Sometimes lubricants or condoms and even a new sexual partner can trigger an infection. The use of vaginal probiotics (Lactobacillus) is helpful in preventing this infection.
