However, EMG/NCV is a study which is operator dependent which means that getting an accurate result and diagnoses does depend on how good the person performing the study is.

You can ice for 20 min 1-3 times per day depending on severity of your symptoms, until you can see a doctor.

Usually disc issues will result in something called radiculopathy, which is symptoms going down one or both legs, however that is not always the case. Radiculopathy is rare with just muscle issues. So if you have radiculopathy it's more likely to be a disc problem. If you don't, there is no way to tell aside from MRI.
