Initial stages have milder pain, but with advancement of stage, the pain gets worse. Need for replacement is multifactorial. It depends on symptoms, objective exam findings and XR, MRI findings. If someone has hip pain, then regular follow up with your orthopedic doc is important. On a broad level, worsening hip pain is a sign of worsening arthritis.
