Antinaus 50, a phenothiazine derivative is used to relieve or prevent some types of allergy or allergic reactions.

It works by preventing the effects of a substance called histamine, which is produced by the body. By blocking the naturally occurring histamine in our body it acts as an antihistamine.

This medicine affords protection of motion sickness but produces sedation and dryness of mouth. It can also be used in morning sickness, radiation sickness, insomnia, drug induced and postoperative vomiting.

3 Proper Usage

An adult can be treated with 25-50 mg (as hydrochloride), given via IM or slow IV injection or injected into the tubing of a freely running infusion at a concentration of not >25 mg/ml and infused at a rate of not >25 mg/min. Maximum dose: 100 mg.

The dose and duration of treatment in case of a child should be determined by a pediatrician. Further, dose reduction may be required in patients with renal impairment.

  • This drug should not be used in those with asthma, urinary retention, prostatic hyperplasia, pyloroduodenal obstruction, epilepsy, glaucoma, and impaired liver function.
  • Driving a car, using machinery or any other activity that requires alertness should not be performed as promethazine makes you dizzy or drowsy or cause blurred vision.
