Ankle surgery is an option when more conservative treatment do not give any good results to relieve pain caused by artheitis.

Severely damaged ankle joints may need to have the bones fused togrther or even replaced with an artificial joint.

There are complications that relate to surgery in general. This includes potential risks related with:

• anaesthesia
• infection
• damage to the nerves and blood vessels
• bleeding or blood clots

Problem after ankle surgery includes ankle joint stiffness, weakness and arthritis.
