Physical Therapist Questions Back Pain

Can physical therapy help with pregnancy backaches?

I am in the 5th month of my pregnancy and I am already having a lot of back pain and discomfort. I am worried as the months pass, the pain will worsen. Can physical therapy help with pregnancy-related backache?

Hi there! Yes! Physical therapy can absolutely help with pregnancy related back aches. I always recommend going to see a physical therapist who specializes in the pelvic floor as they are typically more well versed in how pregnancy affects your musculoskeletal system. They will also provide pregnancy safe exercise/stretch recommendations that a general orthopedic PT may not know. Search for a "pelvic floor physical therapist" near you and try to get in ASAP!
Hi there

Yes it can. AS YOU know, pregnancy is tough on the body. And just like many physical activities, you body needs caring. Plus, there is the physiological changes that makes it possible the hardest thing in our lives(not mine, I'm a male). So congrats, you are a mom and one of the toughest ppl in history.

However, being a back pain specialist, joint specialist, ortho specialist, allows me to make that process smoother.

It can help. Check with your OBGYN to make sure there are no contraindications or precautions that you would need to adhere by. There are certain positions that you typically need to avoid depending on the stage of pregnancy.
Congratulations and all the best!
Sure, gentle isometric exercises for the lower back will help. Positioning includes using back cushion on chairs. Also, swimming is the best exercise for pregnant women.
Absolutely, it can definitely help you.
Yes.
The short answer is yes. Again it depends on your health status. You should see a physical therapist prior to starting any kind of exercise
Yes, PT can help with pregnancy related back aches. The good news is in 4 months your body will be transitioning into another stage and the PT would be able to help you with this as well. Congrats and good luck.
