How can I lower my hemoglobin levels?

I have high hemoglobin levels. How can I lower my hemoglobin levels?

The normal level of hemoglobin for a male is 14-18, for a female 12-16. If your levels are much higher you should see a hematologist for a diagnosis as to the cause and potential treatment.
The most common reason for an elevation of the red cell count is cigarette smoking. This results in chronic lung disease and reduced levels of oxygen. The response of the bone marrow is to make excess red blood cells. This is referred to as Secondary Erythrocytosis. The best advice is to consult with a Hematologist and to discontinue cigarette smoking all together.
