What can go wrong with anesthesia at an older age?

I am a 69 year old male. I will have surgery under general anesthesia. What can go wrong with anesthesia at an older age?

This is a challenging question. In general, anesthesia is safer than driving your car down the street. The more underlying conditions you have, especially related to heart and lung problems, the more risk there is of adverse events or complications. Anything between nothing and death is possible…but death is very rare and usually related to being extremely unhealthy and less related to the anesthesia itself.
