TAKING ANTIBIOTICS FOR AN INFECTION SOMETIMES IS A NECESSITY. THE PROBLEM IS MOST PEOPLE HAVE THEIR OWN IDEAS HOW THEY WILL TAKE THEIR ANTIBIOTICS. SOME PATIENTS WILL TAKE ONE OR TWO DOSES AND STOP. IF A PATIENT IS GIVEN AN ANTIBIOTIC AND PAIN MEDICINE, PATIENTS WILL TAKE THE PAIN MEDS AND SKIP THE ANTIBIOTICS, THEN SAY THE PAIN MEDICINE DOESN'T WORK. IF YOU ARE GIVEN ANTIBIOTICS, TAKE THE ANTIBIOTICS FOR THE LENGTH OF TIME YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO. EVEN IF YOU THINK THE INFECTION IS BETTER, SOME OF THE BACTERIA MAY STILL BE PRESENT AND THE INFECTION WILL START INCREASING IF YOU STOP. IF IT IS THOUGHT THAT THE INFECTION IS STILL PRESENT, YOU MAY BE GIVEN THE SAME ANTIBIOTIC FOR ANOTHER COURSE OF TREATMENT OR YOU MAY BE GIVEN A DIFFERENT KIND OF ANTIBIOTIC.
The antibiotics will only work if the source of the tooth infection was addressed. Solely antibiotics will not resolve the tooth infection. It is an adjunct and will require an evaluation of the source of infection and performing procedures necessary to resolve the infection rather than just relying on antibiotics only

Tooth extraction/removal may be recommended
Hi,

It depends on the tooth infection. Sometimes the tooth needs to be removed to eliminate the infection.
