It depends on the type of surgery performed, and the size of the incisions needed. The majority of patients have a period of two to six weeks that we ask them to avoid lifting more than 15 pounds or straining the abdominal wall. This does not mean bedrest and we still ask patients to walk and perform normal daily activities even the day of surgery.
Every surgeon is different in terms of how long they would like you to wait until resuming exercise, so speak with your surgeon. However, walking is highly encouraged as soon after surgery as possible to help with pain and decrease the risk of blood clots.
Can start walking immediately. Please discuss with Surgeon. It depends on extent of Surgery.
Up to your surgeon.
This is a good question for your surgeon. Different factors are taken into your consideration such as age, medical problems, medications and if there were any complications during surgery.
I usually recommend light activities (no abdominal wall straining) for 2 weeks, followed by an increase in activity over the next 2 weeks. Generally, no restrictions after 4 weeks if you are pain free.
