Dentist Questions Pregnancy

Can I have dental anesthesia when pregnant?

I believe I need a root canal, but I'm 23 weeks pregnant and I know that there are different considerations with pregnant women and oral health. If I need a root canal, am I able to get it done? And, can I have dental anesthesia? I don't want to wait until after my delivery for treatment, unless my dentist tells me that treatment can harm my baby.

At six months, it is iffy.
Buy dental anesthesia I think you mean by an injection of a dental anesthetic. I do not recommend you being put to sleep. As far as an injection you should have Carbocaine 3% without a vasoconstrictor and it should be safe for you and most OB/GYN‘s will allow you to have it

When you say dental anesthesia, I am presuming you mean local anesthetic to get a tooth numb. This is typically safe for pregnancy, however if there are any risks with the pregnancy, I would recommend talking to your OBGYN first. We also like to do any treatment in the second trimester when possible.

Hope this helps,

Yes.....but should avoid 1st trimester.
First, congratulations. Hopefully you are having a healthy pregnancy. As to your question: Dental anesthesia and root canals are safe during pregnancy. Just make sure your dentist is using Lidocaine as the anesthetic. It is the only dental anesthetic recommended for pregnant patients.
Best wishes.
