“What could be cause of sepsis in a newborn?”
My sister just delivered a baby but within 4 hours of being born the baby developed sepsis and has been shifted to the NICU. What could be the reason for this? We are very worried please help.

There are different kinds of bacteria or other microbes could cross into the fetus around birth and cause infection, leading to sepsis. Best is to discuss with your baby's pediatrician the specific nature of the pathogen and review risk factors for sepsis to detemine a possible cause. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Early onset neonatal sepsis is a very serious and potentially fatal condition. It is acquired by transmission of a colonizing bacteria in the mother to the infant during labor and delivery through no fault of her own. Coverage with broad spectrum antibiotics and supportive care are the remedies. Hope the baby does well
