Cardiologist Questions High Blood Pressure

Does blood pressure rise during exercise?

I'm in good shape for a man my age (55), but recently I was screened and told I had high blood pressure. I had been running before the appointment, though. Couldn't this be the cause? How long do you have to wait to get a good reading?

Yes. Blood pressure increases due to exercise, which is normal response. To diagnose high blood pressure, you should have your blood pressure checked after an hour post exertion depends on the exertion type.

When you go for a medical appointment you should stay in a quiet room for 15 mins and the blood pressure should be checked with an electronic BP monitor. Will be even better if you have blood monitor at home to check your blood pressure reading at home
Any exercise, especially resistance training, raises BP during & likely about 15 minutes post exercise. Would wait at least 45-60 minutes before measuring BP post exercise.
Even more importantly, it sounds like one random reading was done and it is best (in general) to have multiple readings over a period of time before making such a diagnosis.
