OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) Questions Birth Control

How effective is the diaphragm as birth control?

I'm considering having the diaphragm as birth control, as one of my friends use it and it's actually worked for her so far. Do you recommend it? I personally would rather this than the pill.

It is effective for upto 88% even if used not so perfectly. That means 12 out of 100 women who use the diaphragm get pregnant. 12% is a very risk to take if you do not want to get pregnant. Discuss this with your OB-GYN before you decide on it.
About 88% effective. There are more failures with this method due to late placement or early removal. Contraceptive gel needs to be used with the diaphragm. Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone

Diaphragm works well in combination with spermicide gel, and if used correctly can be very effective. Many young women choose to avoid BCPs and use condoms. If not used correctly it will not be effective - best to have an appt with your GYN doc for a fitting and education on how to use it.
If it is used properly, the efficiency could be around 70%-80%.
